Main Scholarship Opportunities
1. UBC International Scholars Program
This is the most important one to highlight.
The International Scholars Program is designed for high-achieving international students who demonstrate leadership, significant community involvement and substantial financial need.
It includes four major awards:
- Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award
- Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award
- International Impact Award
- Vantage One Excellence Award
Applicants are automatically considered for the International Scholars awards for which they are eligible rather than selecting a specific award themselves.
2. International Major Entrance Scholarship
The International Major Entrance Scholarship, or IMES, is awarded to exceptional international students entering UBC directly from secondary school.
For the 2026/27 academic year, awards are valued at CAD 10,000 to CAD 25,000 per year and can be renewed for up to three additional years. UBC has not yet published a new value for 2027/28 on this page, so I would not claim a different amount yet.
3. Outstanding International Student Award
The Outstanding International Student Award, or OIS, is a one-time merit-based award given to strong international applicants when they receive an admission offer.
The currently published award value is CAD 10,000 to CAD 25,000 for the 2025/26 academic year.
4. UBC Okanagan Global Elevation Award
New international undergraduate students enrolling at UBC Okanagan can receive an CAD 8,000 tuition award, renewable for up to four years or until degree completion.
5. UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award
International students who select an eligible UBC Okanagan degree as their first choice may receive a CAD 5,000 first-year tuition award.

Eligibility Requirements
- Be an international student who will study in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
- Enter UBC directly from an accredited secondary school.
- Be applying for a first undergraduate degree.
- For 2027 Winter Session, have graduated from high school no earlier than June 2026.
- Demonstrate significant financial need.
- Meet UBC's general and programme-specific admission requirements.
- Demonstrate leadership and meaningful contributions to your community.
- For the International Scholars Program, UBC describes superior academic achievement as achieving all As or an equivalent standard.
- Applicants to the International Scholars Program must be nominated.

Application Process
For the International Scholars Program:
- Choose your preferred UBC campus and programme.
- Speak with your school about nomination.
- Apply for admission to UBC.
- Create your International Scholars application account.
- Invite your nominator and teacher referee.
- Gather your financial information.
- Complete your essays and other application sections.
- Submit the application by November 15, 2026.
- Submit required admission documents by January 31, 2027.
- If shortlisted, you may be invited to complete a video interview between January and March.
Scholarship decisions are expected on a rolling basis from February through April.
