Eligibility Requirements

• Be a citizen and resident of an African country, or hold refugee status in an African country.
• Qualify academically for admission to an eligible University of Edinburgh programme.
• Normally hold the equivalent of at least a UK Upper Second Class Bachelor's degree.
• Have completed an undergraduate degree before the required application deadline.
• Have experienced significant barriers to education.
• Demonstrate leadership and service within your community.
• Show experience or ambition to make a meaningful contribution to addressing the climate crisis.
• Be aged 35 or younger in the year the programme begins.
• Not already hold a postgraduate degree.
• Not be enrolled in another university while receiving the scholarship.

Application Process

There is an unusual but important rule for this scholarship.

For the previous cycle, applicants were instructed to apply for the Mastercard Foundation scholarship first, rather than initially submitting a separate University of Edinburgh degree application.

Successful scholarship applicants were then invited to apply formally for their selected degree programme through the University's normal admission process.

Students applying for other scholarships that require an active Edinburgh admission application could still submit a university application separately.
